Daisy and Onslow's bed really collapsed in 1990! Behind the Scenes

They must have had fun when they filmed . Judy Cornwell remembers Geoffrey Hughes.
The first time we did a recording in front of an audience at the BBC Studios, we both climbed into bed and it collapsed on us. Both our legs went flying up in the air and it took the BBC crew ages to calm the live audience down because everyone was laughing so much. They eventually built the bed up again but that’s how our relationship started and continued with a lot of laughs!
Geoffrey later developed a habit of waiting until the countdown for the cameras to start... 10, nine, eight... and just before the end he would then pinch my bottom under the covers to make me yelp. I used to get my own back by trying to stop him nicking all the biscuits from the prop room.
He was a natural in the role. Nobody could have played Keeping Up Appearances’ Onslow better than him. He had the same naughty sense of humour that I had.
Daisy and Onslow played together so well that many fans really believed they were a real couple!
