It is a remake of Alfred Hitchcock’s classic 1938 film but with a fresh interpretation closer to the original novel. Directed by Diarmuid Lawrence, the film stars Tuppence Middleton as Iris Carr, alongside Tom Hughes, Keeley Hawes, and Selina Cadell.





The story begins in pre-WWII Europe. Iris Carr, a young English socialite, is traveling alone by train from a Balkan country to London. Before the journey, she suffers a brief fainting spell and is helped by an elderly governess, Miss Froy. The two women become friendly, and Miss Froy shares personal stories, including that she is returning home to England after years of teaching abroad.

However, when Iris wakes up after a nap, Miss Froy has vanished. Strangely, all the passengers deny ever seeing her. Confused and increasingly desperate, Iris tries to uncover the truth, suspecting a conspiracy. With the help of a young music scholar named Max Hare, she investigates further, uncovering signs that Miss Froy may have been abducted because she holds sensitive information.

As suspense builds, Iris must overcome disbelief, danger, and her own doubts to prove Miss Froy existed and save her. The tension rises until the thrilling climax where the mystery is solved, and Miss Froy is rescued.

This version of The Lady Vanishes emphasizes psychological drama and suspense over action, creating a more atmospheric and character-driven story. With elegant period settings, strong performances—particularly from Middleton and Cadell—and a plot filled with twists, the 2013 adaptation is a compelling reimagining of a classic tale of mystery, deception, and courage.
