Keeping Up Appearances boss Roy Clarke blasts Patricia Routledge over criticism

ROY Clarke has blasted Patricia Routledge for acting like her snooty character Hyacinth Bucket.

he Keeping Up Appearances creator is angry that she slated plans to re-make her comedy hit.

The BBC has filmed a prequel to the 1990s sitcom, which stars Him & Her actress Kerry Howard in the lead role and tells the story of how she became a social climber.

On hearing about their plans, Patricia who played Hyacinth in the original series, said: “Why are they doing this sort of thing?

"They must be desperate. Remind me to switch off, please.”

However, at the launch of the show this week – which has been made to mark the 60th anniversary of sitcoms on the BBC – Clarke dismissed the actress’ comments.

He said: “That’s pure Hyacinth!” And Kerry added: “I’ve had no contact with her.”

There are hopes that if viewers like the show – due to air next month and featuring other younger versions of characters from the smash comedy such as Daddy, Violet, Daisy and Rose – it might become a series.

A LONG-lost episode of the East End comedy has been found and may be screened on TV.

The Intolerance story was originally shown in 1966 with Alf Garnett (played by the late Warren Mitchell) getting a black eye after a racist outburst at a cup final match in Scotland.

The BBC thought that this particular show had been wiped for good from its back catalogue until a member of the public came forward with it. There could be more to follow.

Eastenders -Grant's son hits the Square

THIS is the secret son that Grant Mitchell didn’t know he had.

Viewers discovered this week that he had a fling with Michelle Fowler years ago and she got pregnant.

But she never let him know she had a baby boy and called him Mark Fowler Junior after her late brother who died of an Aidsrelated illness in 2004.

Tonight fans will see Mark (played by actor Ned Porteous) arrive in Albert Square.

After Sharon told Phil the shock news about Mark, she begged him not to spill the beans to Grant and leave the lad – based in the States with his mum Michelle – living blissfully unaware about who his real father was.

But Phil thought his brother should know and he grabbed her phone behind her back, called Mark and told him to come to Walford.

How long will it be before Mark is told that his dad is Grant, who just happens to be back on the Square? The show is on tonight on BBC One at 8pm.
