First look at Kerry Howard as Young Hyacinth in Keeping Up Appearances prequel

where she can be seen smiling at William (James Wrighton).

Dressed in a lilac coat, printed scarf, purple hat and white gloves, she looks every inch the social climber that audiences came to know and love.

She will be the focus of the one-off prequel Young Hyacinth, which takes place before she begins pronouncing her surname as "Bouquet".

Speaking about the role, Kerry said: "This is a gift of a part… I can't wait to play her."

Viewers will also be introduced to the younger versions of her sisters Rose (Katie Redford), Daisy (Katherine Pearce) and Violet (Tamla Kari).

The prequel to the British sitcom has been written by Roy Clarke, who wrote the original series.

Discussing the revival and focussing on Hyacinth before she met her husband Richard, he commented: "Often, even during the elder Hyacinth's reign, I would wonder what this formidable mature lady would have been like as a young woman.

"Would the Hyacinth powers already be there? Well, to my delight I have been given the chance to find out."

He told the BBC: "I've been allowed to wander into her background and investigate, almost a piece of archaeology really, until there she was – Young Hyacinth in early blossom.

"I hope those who knew her in her prime will find as much please in this recreation of her as I have."
